Abstract
854,010. Charging shaft furnaces. HUTTENWERK SALZGITTER A.G. Sept. 4, 1958, No. 28455/58. Class 51 (2). A hopper 1 used for charging a shaft furnace has a lower bell 3 smaller than the discharge opening, the annular space ,so formed being filled by a vertically movable distributer 5 of inverted V- shaped cross-section. The distributer is supported by rods 12 having a piston-like part 11 engaged by retaining members 10 which can be swung outwardly to release the rods. When the bell 3 is actuated alone charge material falls towards the centre of the shaft and when both bell 3 and distributer 5 are lowered, material falls over the outer frusto-conical surface 7 towards the periphery of the shaft. The bell carries the distributer when the latter is released.
