Abstract

492,561. Melting - furnaces. CHEMISCHE STUDIEN - GES. UNIWAPO GES. Sept. 20, 1937, No. 25449. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1936. [Class 51 (ii)] In a furnace for melting finely divided and granular materials such as mineral phosphates, glass, enamel &c. which tend to assume a pasty condition before melting, two or more inclined surfaces e, e<1> or surface sections are arranged between a preheating chamber g and hearths d, d<1>, for collecting the molten material, and are charged successively from the preheater. The rate of charging is so adjusted that the material will melt and flow from an inclined surface before the next batch is fed on to it. In the apparatus shown the preheater is of rotary tubular form, and the successive feeding to the two inclined surfaces is effected by reversing the direction of rotation.at intervals. Alternatively an inclined plate mounted to rotate about a vertical axis may be used to direct the material in succession to two or more hearths. In another arrangement two heating- chambers each with a surface e and a hearth d are arranged at right-angles, and pushers are provided for feeding the material successively thereto. A number of inclined surfaces may be juxtaposed to form a pyramid, or combined into a cone. The upper portions of the surfaces e, e<1> are preferably more steeply inclined than the lower portions.
