Abstract

613,586. Blasting-cartridges. ASHCROFT, D. G., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 19, 1946, No. 18408. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to metal containers for blasting-cartridges used to build up a columnar charge by assembling the containers end to end. Containers having forward male and rearward female portions are provided with inwardly projecting tongues in the rearward portion which hold the cartridge on the seating formed at the forward end and further tongues engaging, with the obstruction. on the forward portion of an. adjoining container to lock the assembled containers together. The tongues 4 and 5 are stamped out of a sheet of tinned iron and the sheet rolled into a tube 1, the overlap being seamed. Into the forward portion of the tube 1 is inserted a metal cup 3 having a base of reduced diameter from which a hole is punched out, the cup 3, being fitted within a cup 6 also having a hole in its base. Protuberances 7 are provided on the cup 3 to prevent relative rotation of the containers after assembly. The base of the cup 3 forms a seating for an inserted cartridge and the tongues 5 are bent inwards over the cartridge to hold it in position. When the forward portion of a container is inserted in the rear portion 2 of a second container the tongues 4 fit between the cup-6 and the cup 3 to prevent the containers being pulled apart.
