Abstract

613,173. Wheel tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BLANCHARD, L. S. June 14, 1946, No. 17863. [Class 144 (i)] In a tyre-building machine, spinning-discs for operating at the bead zones are mounted on arms connected to rotary spindles which are eccentrically mounted on driven shafts, the discs being caused to move over arcs, the radius of which may be varied between predetermined limits. As shown, a pair of bead-spinning discs 19 are mounted for opposed traverse about the edges of the building-drum 4. Each discmounting comprises a pedestal 5 housing a vertical shaft 8 on which a table 9 is eccentrically mounted. A cranked extension 9a of the table supports a tubular pillar 10 in which is rotatably mounted a spindle 14 carrying an arm 15. Angularly adjustable on the arm 15 is an arm 16 fitted with a post 17 in which the stub-axle of the disc 19 is journalled. The shafts 8, by which the traverse of the discs is effected, are driven from a shaft 12. For maintaining the discs in normal contact with the tyre material on the drum, the spindles 14 are connected, through cranks 11, to the pistonrods 22 of power cylinders 23 mounted on the tables 9.
