Abstract

658,008. Pneumatic tyres. ARNOLD, J. C. (National Rubber Machinery Co.). July 6, 1949, No. 17912. [Class 144 (i)] In a tyre-building machine of the flatband type, the edges of the fabric plies overhanging the ends of the rotary drum are folded over and under the bead cores by means of a pair of stitcher rolls mounted on arms which are movable axially of the drum and are carried on supports rotatable about fixed axes and tiltable relatively thereto about at least one angularly-disposed axis. As shown, the roller 1 is carried by an arm 2 mounted on the head 3a of a rotatable support 3 and is capable of universal movement relative to the axis of the support 3. The arm is rocked about its pivot 4 by means of a powercylinder 8 the piston of which is connected by a link 6 to a lever 5 integral with the arm. The head 3a is swingably-mounted on a pivot 12, at right-angles to the pivot 4, and actuated by means of a power-cylinder 16. The support 3 is rotated about its own axis through motor-driven worm-gears 22, 23.
