613,089. Electromagnetic relays. SOC. ANON. COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DE MACHINES AUTOMATIQUES DE COMPTABILITE. June 4, 1946, No. 16973. Convention date, May 4, 1944. [Class 38 (v)] A relay is provided with a pile of fixed and movable spring blade contacts which are secured to a base independently of the energizing coils, armature and actuating member. The armature is pivoted to the base and its movement is transmitted to the actuating member which is in the form of a longitudinally-moving ladder, each rung of which engages one of the movable spring blades. Fig. 1 shows a part sectional view of the relay. The base 1 is of non-magnetic cast metal and is bolted to a cross-member 9 which may support a number of similar relays. The base 1 supports two energizing coils 14 wound on iron cores 12 and joined in series. A part 3 of the base 1 is provided during the casting process with a rod 11 which supports two insulating shells 33, 34 provided with slots to receive the contact blades. The armature 22 is pivoted at 24 and is formed with an extension to which the actuating member 6 is hinged at 28. Member 6 comprises two uprights 50 connected by rungs 63 which bear on the movable contact springs 55 which are lowered into contact with the fixed contacts 59 when the armature is attracted to the cores 12. The armature is retained in the attracted position by a catch 30 till released by the rotation of the spindle 32. Fig. 6 shows the method of fixing the shells 33, 34 to the rod 11. The rod 11 is passed through openings in the shells and through a spring plate 36, portions 37, 38 of which are bent out to form lugs which engage under a head H on the rod. Fig. 7 shows one of the spring blades in which the contact 40 is carried by a resilient portion 41 of the blade. Turned-up edges 42, 43 stiffen the centre part of the blade which is formed with stops 46, 47 to engage the front face of the shell 33 and with a bent-out lug 45a which engages the rear face of shell 34 as shown in Fig. 1.
