[Class 140] [Also in Groups XVII and XX] Composite sheet materials are made from sheets of fabric such as cotton braid or duck, coated on one side with a thermosetting resin and on the other with an aqueous dispersion of a rubber-like material, two such sheets being superimposed with the thermosetting resin coatings adjacent, and the sheets then heat bonded. Several coatings of the thermosetting resin and of the latex may be applied. A specified aqueous dispersion is that of a copolymer of vinyl chloride and methyl acrylate admixed with triethylene glycol dicaprate, while a phenol-aldehyde resin in acetone or alcohol may be used to give the thermosetting coating which may then be heated to partially harden. One or more additional plies of fabric coated on both faces with a thermosetting resin may be inserted between the thermosetting resin coated faces, and rubber-like material such as plasticized polyvinyl chloride may be applied to the outer coatings of rubber-like material. In making articles such as binocular cases the separate sheets may be shaped on a mould, superimposed and then bonded.
