Fig. 4, combined with a strengthening core 6 woven from textile threads and metal wires, as described in Specification 542,379, [Group IX]. The metal wires may be used as resistances in an electrical circuit so as to produce a heating effect, or they may be high tensile strength steel wires in which case the product can be bent in a small radius without breaking. The core is united to the veneers by means of a synthetic resin with the aid of heat and pressure. The veneers or the fabric may be impregnated with the resin, e.g., a methylated spirit solution of a phenol- or ureaaldehyde resin, or the resin may be applied to a sheet of tissue paper inserted between the fabric and the veneers. Vinyl resins may be used. The core 6 may be attached to layers of soft wood bonded to outer layers of hard wood. In Fig. 7, boards for flooring are formed of a core 13 of sawdust or wood chips bonded with synthetic resin, sandwiched between layers 14 of laminated material comprising an inner layer 15 of textile-metal fabric and an outer layer 16 of veneer. Or the layer 15 may be embedded in the core which is sandwiched between outer veneers. The compound laminated material may be formed into shapes involving curves in two directions by laying veneers 9, Fig. 6, diagonally on a mould 10, and securing them to the mould by staples 11 with layers 12 of textile-metal fabric between the veneers. The metal-wire fabric may be arranged so that the warps and wefts are perpendicular to the sides of the laminated material, or to give miximum tensile strength at 45 degrees for sheer loads, or two such layers may be used in combination. The laminated material may be finally coated with protective or decorative coatings. When heating wires are used the material may be applied to the manufactures of ducts in air-conditioning plants.
