611,898. Sawing stone. JACOBS, S. May 13, 1946, No. 14424. [Class 124] [Also in Group XXXIV] In a saw machine for cutting diamond and other gem stones wherein the stone is fed against a rotating saw or disc, the shaft of the saw rests on metal bearing surfaces of vee form and the ends of the shaft are engaged by metal members, one of which is adjustable in the direction of the axis of the saw. As shown, a saw 7 has a shaft 8 resting in vee blocks 13 held in slots in the base 1, the ends of the shaft engaging semi-spherical bearings 14 and 17, the latter being adjustable by means of the knurled nut 18 and lock-nut 22. The stone is held in holders 39 adjustably supported on an arm 24 pivotally held by shafts 80 in adjustable bearings in a cradle 52 transversely adjustable on the base 1. An adjustable stop 67 is mounted in a pivoted block 66 in the arm 24 to control the downward movement of the stone holder. The saw 17 and the arm 24 may easily be removed and returned to their original position. The machine is stated to be very rigid in use and to prevent lateral movement of the saw in the cut.
