A straight-sided milling-cutter or slitting-saw sharpening attachment adapted for use with a bench grinder, comprises a bracket 5 adjustably mounted relative to the grinding wheel 10 and carrying a flat horizontally-pivoted platform 1 on which the cutter is set and clamped in the sharpening position by means including a boss 23 for locating the cutter by its central hole, the boss being adjustable towards and away from the wheel to accommodate cutters of different diameters. A parallel-sided cutter or slitting-saw 24 (Fig: 2) is clamped by a finger-nut 26 on a bolt 22 carrying the boss 23, a recessed clamping plate 25 and spring washer 27 being interposed between the finger-nut and the plate. A flat spring catch 28, having an upturned portion 30 to engage a radial tooth face, serves as an indexing means for the cutter, the teeth projecting over the edge of a plate 12 pivotally attached to the platform 1. A finger-nut 16 provides for fine adjustment of the plate 12 whereby adjustment of the depth of the cut made by the annular edge of the cup wheel 10 may be effected. Inclined slots 20, 21 in the plate 12, Fig. 5, enable the bolt 22 to be adjusted to suit different cutter diameters. During grinding the platform 1 is rocked, under frictional restraint about its pivotal support 19 by a handle 18 so that the full depth of a cutter up to ¢ in. thick may be evenly ground. Straight-tooth angle-cutters are mounted on a supplementary support comprising a pivoted bracket 36, Fig 5, carrying a slotted clamping plate 38 and a stud 41, the cutter 39 being located by a boss as described with reference to the slitting-saw; the plate 38 carries a spring- catch with a projecting portion for indexing the cutter teeth, as previously described. The bracket 36 may be secured to the platform 1 by positioning the mounting blocks 31, 32 over either of the inclined slots 20 or 21, the block 31 having projections to engage in the slot selected, depending on the "hand" of the cutter to be sharpened. The inclination of the plate 38 is adjustable, about a pivot 37, to suit the cutter angle. A grinding wheel dressing tool may be clamped by the blocks 31, 32 in place of the spindle 37, the plate 38 being removed.
