611,636. Lenses. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP OPTISCHE INDUSTRIE DE OUDE DELFT. April 24, 1946, No. 12367. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1942. [Class 97 (i)] In lenses having at least one aspherical surface, the difference in the refractive indicies of the media on either side of the surface for the mean wavelength of light used is at the most 0.3. This minimizes refractive errors due to errors in the aspherical surface. As shown, a planoconcave lens C is separated from a lens E having an aspherical surface 4 by a layer D of cement such as Canada balsam, synthetic resin or gelatine or a layer of liquid such as water, the refractive indices fulfilling the above condition. The lenses may be formed by coating a surface with cement and pressing the other to the cement. Alternatively, two complementary aspherical surfaces may be formed by a thin layer of cement.
