610,972. Mixing - machines. CRUIKSHANK, Ltd., J., and GALLIMORE, F. W. April 17, 1946, No. 11931. [Class 86] In a mixing-machine of the kind in which a stirring device depends from a gear lead which extends laterally from a hollow supporting column enclosing a motor and a self-contained enclosed change-speed gearing mounted one above the other, the change-speed gearing driving the gearing is enclosed within the gear-head through flexible belt or chain transmission which is detachable so that the change-speed gear-box is removable as a unit from the column. A change-speed gear box D is supported on a shelf 24 within a sheet metal column B and is driven by an electric motor C through chain gearing 6 and a clutch 27 operated by a control rod 29 and foot pedal 30. The gearing D drives, at a speed selected by a handle 28, through a chain 7, a pinion 5 on a shaft 4 which passes into a gear head unit A and drives a stirrer shaft 13 through epicyclic gearing. The motor C may alternatively be mounted above the gear box D and either above or below the pinion 5.
