Abstract
610,593. Controlling clutches. HUMBER, Ltd., MILLER, A. C., KAMPER, A. M., and BERRY, G. May 29, 1946, No. 16371. [Class 80 (ii)] Where an electromagnetic clutch is driven by an internal-combustion engine having a fast idling device on the carburetter and is energized by current supplied from an engine driven generator as described in Specification 610,519, means are provided for increasing the predetermined speed of automatic engagement when the fast idling device is in operation. In one embodiment, the fast idling device lever 2 is actuated by a cable 1 which also opens a switch 3 to allow the resistance 4 to be placed in the generator/clutch circuit. The value of the resistance may be such that the voltage applied to the clutch is substantially the same under normal and fast idling conditions. Other modifications show control of the fast idling device by thermostatic devices.
