Abstract
Mixtures of sugar crystals and the like in their mother liquor are centrifuged by introducing a charge of the mixture into a centrifugal basket, spinning the basket and washing the charge while spinning with a hot mist consisting of superheated aqueous liquid and steam. The liquid is preferably water but may be clear sugar solutions and is preferably used at a temperature of 225-235 DEG F. under a pressure of 30-50 lbs. per sq. in. The liquid and steam may be mixed just prior to use and ejected through a nozzle on to the sugar wall. The centrifuge may be fitted with a cover (see Group II).
