609,794. Spinning and twisting yarn; woven fabrics. OSBORNE, W. F., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 22, 1946, No. 8964. [Classes 120(iii) and 142(iv)] [Also in Group VIII] Water- and abrasion-resistant articles are so knitted, braided, or woven as to have evenly dispersed through them 25 per cent to 90 per cent by weight of wool, cellulose, regenerated cellulose or regenerated protein fibres or filament, the. remainder being staple fibres or continuous filaments of one or more of the highly polymerized linear esters disclosed in Specifications 578,079 and 590,451, [both in Group IV], (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate). Staple fibres may be obtained by cutting or breaking filaments, preferably after drawing and crimping. Yarns may comprise a bundle of polymeric filaments which may be twisted together, and may contain filaments of regenerated cellulose, or they may be spun from staple fibres of the polymers, together with staple fibres of wool, cotton, or regenerated cellulose or. protein, if desired. Articles may be produced from composite yarns of such polymers and the other materials; or from yarns of such polymers, together with either such composite yarns or yarns of the other materials. Yarns containing continuous filament of such polymers are preferably used in conjunction with low twist yarn of the other materials. Specification 603,840, [Group IV(a)], also is referred to.
