Abstract
609,562. Toothed gearing. BROWN, T. A., and PERIVALE CLOCK MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. March 16, 1946, No. 8204. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Groups XVIII and XXXV] The hands 50, 54 of an electric clock are driven through two or more epicyclic gear trains arranged in cascade on a common spindle 26 by a synchronous electric motor. Each gear train comprises a gear wheel 28, having internal teeth 30, journalled on the spindle 26, a fixed coaxial ring of teeth 32, an eccentric member 34 free to rotate on the spindle, and a twin inner wheel 38 rotatable on the eccentric member 34, and having two sets of teeth 40, 42 meshing simultaneously respectively with the internal gear ring 28 and the fixed ring of teeth 32, the number of teeth of the gear ring differing from those of the fixed ring. The final driven gear wheel is connected to the spindle 26, which forms the minute hand spindle by a slip-spring coupling 46. The usual 12 : 1 gearing 44 is provided between the two hands. In a modification the eccentric 34 is driven from a driven shaft of a synchronous electric motor, parallel to the spindle through toothed gearing.
