Abstract
608,907. Endless-belt conveyers. COMMONWEALTH FERTILISERS & CHEMICALS, Ltd. March 1, 1946, No. 6518. Convention date, March 5, 1945. [Class 78 (i)] The mounting of an idler support roller 11, Fig. 1, of an endless conveyer belt 10 comprises a frame 17, 18 in which the roller is rotatably mounted and an inclined pivot 21 on which the frame is supported, the axis of the pivot being inclined upwardly in the direction of travel of the belt wherein the roller axis is offset below the pivotal axis so that the movement of the roller thrusts the belt when displaced back into position. In Fig. 1, the roller has bearing housings 13 provided with projecting studs 15 fitting in slots in brackets 16 integral with frame member 17, 18 which has a spindle. (not shown) .pivoting in the fixed base sleeve 21. Abutment members 25, 26 limit the pivoting movement. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 the roller (or rollers) 11 is supported in the frame 17 which pivots in sleeve 21 fixed to curved arm supports 32. The roller may be in three parts shaped to trough the belt. The oscillations about the pivot may be damped by viscous oil poured into the pivot bearing or by an arm attached to the roller frame which works in a dashpot. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the fact that the roller axis may also be in line with or above the pivotal axis. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
