Abstract

In Fig. 1 the upper reach of a conveyer belt (not shown) is supported on troughing idler assemblies 10 suspended from rigid side frames 11, 12 mounted on cantilever springs 22. The springs provide for lateral movement of the side frames. Individual members of the side frames are hinged on vertical pivots 19 which pass through brackets 16 secured to the springs 22. A cross-piece 25 on which the springs are mounted also carries a return idler assembly 13. This assembly may alternatively be replaced by an assembly and springs similar to 10, 22. The assemblies 10 may be canted 2 degrees for belt training, Fig. 4 (not shown). Further, the cross-piece 25 and supports 27, 28 for the roller 14 may be replaced by a one-piece structure supporting vertical or L-shaped cantilever springs in place of the springs 22. To accommodate severe alterations in gradient, the side frame members may be provided with horizontal pivot pins (40), Figs. 6-8 (not shown). Horizontal portions of slots (41) also provide for lateral pivoting of the frame members. A further horizontal pivot connection is illustrated in Figs. 13, 14 (not shown). In Fig. 10, a single cantilever spreader member 77 is provided with pivoted arms 83, 84 which, at their free ends, are engageable with pins 87, 88 to limit the degree of troughing. A base member 75 slides into legs 76, and in Fig. 9 (not shown) vertical adjustment for this is provided. To carry personnel on both runs of the belt, spreader units are slung one below the other, members 75, 76 and the arms 83, 84 being omitted. The suspension of the side frames from above is specified.
