[Class 142(i)] A centre weft-fork stopmotion is characterized in that when the loom is running with weft the slide A that is mounted on the front of the sley and receives a reciprocating endwise movement through a connection with a fitting on the breast rail, has its movement curtailed in one direction by a stop B thereon abutting against a downwardly-extending tongue D on the tippler C which carries the weft fork prongs E. When such movement of the slide is arrested, the incline thereon engages a finger on the tippler so that the weft fork is lifted at the beginning of the return movement of the slide. When the weft fork is unsupported by weft the tongue D moves out of the way of the stop B so that the slide continues its movement until arrested by a stop G abutting against one end of the bracket K in which the slide is mounted. The slide during its continued movement moves a slotted stationary member U<SP>4</SP> which in turn moves a pin J<SP>1</SP> on a lever J so as to knock the spring handle out of its starting position and actuate a brake to stop the loom. The movement of the slide in the reverse direction is arrested by an adjustablymounted stop H abutting against the other end of the bracket K. The slide is reciprocated by means of a rod M which is frictionally-operated through a plate O<SP>2</SP> attached to the rod and subjected to pressure between two cork or other frictional pads P mounted in a holder S pivoted on the breast rail. If the loom is required to run when the weft fork is unsupported by weft, the member U<SP>4</SP> is raised until it rests on a projection V on a displaceable lever V' in which position the pin J' is free to move in the slot in the member U<SP>4</SP>
