Abstract

586,214. Loom stop-motions. AKT.-GES. DER EISEN-UND , STAHLWERKE VORM. G. FISCHER. Sept. 19, 1944, No. 17901. Convention date; Sept. 22, 1943. [Classes 142 (i) and 142 (iii)] In a loom in which the starting handle 15 can be disengaged from its weaving setting by a lever 1 pivoted on the breast beam, the handle is arrested in the stopping position, Fig. 2, on weft or warp breakage, but is allowed to move beyond this position on weft exhaustion to initiate automatic weft replenishment, Fig. 3 ; alternatively, weft breakage may initiate replenishment. When the weft fork 19, (Fig. 2), which is mounted directly on the lever 1, is operated by the weft hammer 10, the lever is displaced against a spring 18 and forces the handle 15 out of the notch 21, a catch 14 being held against a stop 17 on the lever by a spring 37 so as to block the path of the handle. At the same time, the arm 30 of a three-armed lever pivoted on the lever 1 displaces an arm 32 to interrupt the take up motion. On warp breakage, a nose 25, Fig. 5, rises into the path of a nose 27 on the slay, whereupon the three-armed lever 23, 28, 30, is moved bodily, causing the lever 1 to stop the loom, and is also turned to the chain line position of Fig. 5, so that the arm 30 clears the arm 32 and the take-up is not interrupted. When weft exhaustion is detected by a spool feeler, a rod 7, Fig. 3, supported by a lever 11 slides into the path of the hammer 10, whereby the lever 11 is turned about its fulcrum 4 on the lever 1 to withdraw the catch 14 from the path of the handle 15. Continued movement of the hammer 10, after the bowed portion of the lever 11 has contacted the boss of the catch 14, turns the lever 1 to the position shown in Fig. 3 and the handle 15 moves to the full extent of its travel to initiate weft replenishment. Whilst this occurs, the catch 14 is held by a pawl 35 operated by a fixed stop 38. The lever 11, in turning about its fulcrum, acts on the arm 28 of the three-armed lever, Fig. 5, thus raising the arm 30 to prevent interruption of the take-up motion. In modifications, the pawl 35 may be omitted or may be spring-loaded towards the catch 14 and a second pawl, mounted on the pawl 35 and co-acting with a fixed stop, affects disengagement of the pawl 35 from the catch 14 when the lever 1 swings rearwards. The catch 14 may pivot on the breast beam or may be integral with the lever 11, which may pivot on the lever 1 or on the breast beam. To initiate weft replenishment when the weft breaks, the weft fork 19 is carried by the lever 11 instead of by the lever 1.
