Weft-feeler arrangements. - The detecting element is mounted on a structure which is moved, on detecting beats of the loom, towards the surface to be detected and then has its motion arrested, the inertia of the detecting element and, or, its mounting acting to carry the detector further forward to perform its detecting function. As shown, a side-swipe feeler 24 is pivoted at 25 to a lever 26 which is pivoted at 27 to the transferrer arm 11. An adjustable tension spring 31 tends to turn the lever 24 in a clockwise direction, the motion being limited by a screw 29 engaging a projection 28 on the lever 26. The arm 26 is normally held in the raised position by a spring 40 secured to a screw 41 on the arm and to an adjusting screw 41 in a lug 43 on the transferrer. In operation, the transferrer moves quickly towards the bobbin and has its motion arrested, the inertia of the parts 24, 26 causing the detector 24 to engage the weft. An extension 45 of the lever 26 engages the spring 40 and puts it under additional strain whereby the detector is moved back quickly when the inertia of the parts is spent. When the weft is substantially exhausted, the detector 24 slips into the position shown and engages an arm 23 of a spring-- controlled latch 21 which normally engages the head 17 of a spring-controlled plunger 12. The plunger is thereby freed and moves to the right to cause weft replenishment or stoppage of the loom. To cause the detector to strike the yarn the same blow at all times, the tension of the spring 40 is adjusted in accordance with the speed of the loom.
