Abstract

608,446. Rail joints; joint chairs. CROSS, C. R. Feb. 23, 1946, No. 5716. [Class 104 (ii)] The rail ends 1 are cut at an acute angle and the tapered parts held in contact by springs, the joint chair 2, which is wider than the joint, and a fish-plate 6 being secured by bolts 4, each having a spring 7, a washer 10 and a nut 5, the chair jaws being recessed to receive the head and nut of the bolt. The washer has projections entering grooves in the bolt and nut. The rails are held in the chair by two keys 9, one from each end of the chair. In a modification, a fish-plate is used on each side of the rail. The rail joints are staggered.
