Rail joints, scarf; chairs with resilient jaws. - Rail joints with tapered end members constituting a vertical splice have the ends of the members resiliently clamped in chairs. The members 1, Fig. 2, are jointed to or are integral with the rail ends 2 and the centre of the joint is resiliently secured by fishplates 7 or an additional chair 10. Each chair 10, Fig. 8, has a jaw 12b receiving a spring 14 which engages a collar 15 and nut 16 on a bolt 12 secured in the other jaw 12<a>. When the end members do not match the adjoining rail ends, packing-pieces or joggled fish-plates may be used.
