[Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In crank mechanism, an eccentric 34, Fig. 11, is mounted on or formed integral with, and rigidly connected to the crank pin 33, so that the geometric centre 92 of the eccentric lags behind the centre line of the crank 31, and is located within the right angle having the crank pin axis 95 as its vertex, and the crank centre line produced as a side. Fig. 11 shows the invention applied to a multithrow crank-shaft. As applied to a bicycle, each crank pin 14, Fig. 1, carries an eccentric 15 about which the pedal 17 is free to rotate. Ball bearings may be inserted between the eccentric and the pedal. In a modification, shrouded toothed gears 68, Fig. 8, are located between, and mesh with teeth in the bore of the big end of a connecting rod 65, and teeth on the periphery of the eccentric 63.
