Abstract

607,901. Lathe &c. drivers. JOSEPH, N. C. Feb. 13, 1946, No. 4442. [Class 83 (iii)] Means for clamping a work-piece on a rotating member comprises a pressure plate rotatably mounted on an arm which is pivotally supported at one end and is held in position with the pressure plate applied to the work-piece by means of a fastening member having a wedge action. The invention is described as applied to a spinning-lathe, the work 1 being clamped against a former on a spindle 3 by means of a pressure plate. 4 rotatably mounted on an arm 5 pivotally mounted at one end on a pin 6. A member 11 bolted to the machine frame is formed with a slot adapted to receive the other end 9 of the arm 5. A lever 13 pivoted on the member 11 has a slot formed with an inclined face which is adapted to engage behind the end 9 of the arm and move it along the slot in the member 11 until the required pressure has been applied to the work by the plate 4. The plate may be axially adjustable and a spring may be interposed between the plate and its thrust bearing.
