Abstract

566,590. Spindle apparatus for yarn twisting and winding machines. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. June 16, 1943, No. 9704. Convention date, June 20, 1942. [Class 120 (ii)] In a yarn winding or twisting and winding machine, a spindle assembly mounting comprises jaws 6, 7 for clamping to the frame 1, 2 of the machine, a slideway 12, 13 extending from the jaws 6, 7 and a support 14 for the spindle assembly which is slidably mounted on the members 12, 13 and adjustable thereon. The support 14 is pressed by a spring 18 mounted on a rod 17 which passes through the jaw 7 so as to hold the wharl 4 in engagement with the driving belt 3. The spring 18 is adjustable by means of a collar 19, while the jaws 6, 7 are adjustable by set-screws 9, 11. The spindle assembly comprises a bolster 21 mounted on the table 14 under control of a spring 25 and a bearing plate and washer 26 carrying a latch 27 for preventing lift of the wharl 4 and a brake 28 which is automatically applied to the wharl 4, e.g. on breakage of the yarn to slide the table 14 forward so that the wharl 4 is carried out of contact with the belt 3.
