388,618. Shearing. HENGSTENBERG, W., Reichenhain, Chemnitz, Germany. May 25, 1932, No: 14896. [Class 83 (iv).] Dividing by a single blade.-An electrically driven shearing-machine, especially for severing long tubes transversely, has a hollow spindle acting as the rotor shaft connected to a hollow cutting head, through which the work may pass, bearing members for supporting the work being carried on the cutting head. The hollow rotor shaft 3 of an electric motor 1 is connected to a cutting head 4 carrying one or more cutting discs 5 and supporting rollers 6 for the work a. The work is located by an adjustable stop 19, and is held by a device 18 which may comprise spring-pressed jaws 20, 21, Fig. 4, opened for release of the work by an eccentric 25, a modification of this device being described. The feed of the tool 5 is derived from a cone 7 slidable on the hollow shaft through a lever 8, the movement of the cone being effected from a pedal through links 14 .. 10. The pedal may engage a rod 16 and move it against the action of a spring 17 towards the end of the operation to permit an initial rapid feed, as when cutting a steel tube, and a final slow feed, as when cutting a paper lining thereof. The cutting wheel may be controlled automatically by a cam, and cams may be provided on the cone 7 for controlling the discs 6 to facilitate insertion of the work.
