Abstract
606,452. Cutting glass. UNION DES VERRERIES MECANIQUES BELGES SOC. ANON. Jan. 4, 1946, No. 414. Convention date, Jan. 4, 1945. [Class 56] In a glass cutter reciprocated across the glass, during the return stroke b the cutter 1 is held out of contact with the glass g by an arm 6 fast on a shaft 7 carrying a projection 17 coacting with a latch 18. As the cutter nears the end of its return stroke the tail 21 of the latch engages an adjustable stop 22 and the shaft 7 then rotates clockwise somewhat by an amount limited by the extent of downward motion of a feeler 14. The feeler now rides up the ramp 16 to complete the return stroke and on reversal the feeder rides down the ramp 16 and the cutter descends into contact with the glass. At the end of the forward stroke a the cutter is raised by the feeler 14 riding up the ramp 15 and is again held raised by the projection 17 re-engaging behind the latch 18. In a modification, the projection may have. a recess and an overhanging lip under which the atch 18 is received and the adjustable stop 22 may be replaced by a spring-pressed stop. An intermediate double ramp 23 may be provided to raise the cutter at desired parts of its forward stroke.
