Abstract
601,263. Sliding-clasp fasteners. SOC. ANON. SPEED. July 11, 1945, No. 17660. Convention date, Feb. 22. [Class 44] In the feed mechanism of a machine for making sliding-clasp fasteners in which the elements are delivered one by one to the tape by alternating movements of a needle and a finger entering a feed passage, the needle is advanced into the passage, and preferably also withdrawn therefrom by the release movement of a spring or springs which has or have been stressed during an earlier part of the cycle of operations. The elements 2 slide down a feed passage 1, and are held alternately by a needle 3 and by a finger (not shown) which enters the passage when the needle is withdrawn. The needle 3 is attached to an oscillating holder 4, pivoted at 41, at the lower end of which is a spring-loaded plunger 5 which acts to thrust the needle forward. At the necessary intervals, the plunger 5 is positively retracted by means of a rocker 7 actuated by a push-rod 8, and a spring 10, acting on the upper arm of the holder 4, then moves the latter to withdraw the needle 3. To interrupt the feed when necessary, a stop 12 is moved into contact with the vertical arm of the holder 4 by partial rotation of a shaft 13 carrying a pin 11.
