536,028. Knitting-machines. DUBIED & CIE. SOC. ANON., E. Oct. 28, 1939, No. 28905. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1938. [Class 74 (ii)] In a circular or flat machine in which means are provided for transferring loops 30 from the needles 21 of one bed to the needles 18 of the other bed, a latch-opening device 8 is arranged to open and to hold the latches of the needles 18 open until those needles have penetrated the loops held by the needles 21, and a latch-closing member 23 is so disposed as to close the latches of the needles 21 before the needles are withdrawn through the loops 30. The latch-opening device 8 is needle shaped and is pivotally mounted upon a carrier 4 movable with the transfer cam. In addition to the latch-opening device 8, a brush 14 is provided for opening the needle latches. The latchclosing member 23 is provided with a knife-edge projection 23<SP>1</SP> for closing the latches. In a flat machine, a latch-opening member 8, a brush 14 and a latch-closing device 23 are provided for operation in each direction of movement of the cam carriage. An electrically operated stop motion having contact members 25, 26 can be actuated by the engagement of the member 8 with an obstruction such as a deformed needle.
