Abstract

606,252. Regulating. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. June 14, 1946, No. 17983. Convention date, June 21, 1945. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] In a fuel supply system a pump 20 supplies fuel past a regulating valve 90 maintaining a constant pressure at A to an engine driven centrifugal impeller 48 producing a metering pressure at B proportional to the square of engine speed, the fuel passing through a metering orifice 56 and a diaphragm actuated regulating valve 68 to a nozzle 61 in the air intake pipe 10. The orifice 56 is controlled through a needle valve 14 by a capsule 124 subject to air intake pressure in the casing 126, the needle 114 being contoured to produce an enrichment at high power output. The springs 100, 76 acting on the regulating valves 90, 68 are adjusted so that the pressures at A and C are approximately equal, the valve 68 preferably opening at a pressure at C slightly lower than that at A to produce an idling enrichment. A pipe 64 facing the air flow introduces emulsifying air through passage 65, 63a into the fuel emerging from nozzle 61. The metering orifice may also be controlled by other engine variables such as temperature and exhaust back pressure, or by charging pressure in supercharged engines.
