Abstract

605,975. Proofing textile materials against moths. ROOS, K. Jan. 7, 1946, No. 597. [Class 140] Textile fabrics of animal origin are mothproofed by a mild enzyme hydrolysis treatment prior to or during treatment with a moth-proofing preparation. The enzymes may be Papainum (succus Caricae Papayae), or Bromeline or Pancreatine. The moth-proofing agents specified are dicyclohexylaminesilicofluoride and magnesium silicofluoride. The enzyme hydrolysis is effected in dilute aqueous solution at temperatures up to 40-50‹C. by steeping the fabric in the solution. Minute percentages of alum or a wetting agent such as sodium lauryl sulphate may be added to the hydrolysis and. or the moth-proofing solutions. The mild hydrolysis with the proteolytic enzymes is said to give a mild etching effect to the fabric. The fabrics treated include woollens, carpets, and furnishing fabrics
