Abstract
605,504. Footwear cleaning apparatus. TEMPLE, L. A. Dec. 27, 1945, No. 34943. [Class 138 (i)] [Also in Group XIV] A footwear cleaning compactum comprises an inclined footboard having gripping means for holding a container of cleaning material stationary thereon, the gripping means comprising a fixed member and a movable member resiliently urged towards the fixed member, the members together providing at least three abutments to engage the container at three points on its periphery on an arc subtending an angle of at least 180 degrees at its centre. An inclined footboard 5, Figs. 1 and 4, with a nonslip tread 21 is mounted on a body 1 provided with a drawer 10 for cleaning material not in use, and with two hinged doors 11 adapted'to open outwards and downwards and having a plurality of spring clips 15 for holding brushes or the like. At least one clip is adjustable to suit the widths of different brushes, being formed in two halves, one provided with a hole and the other with a slot, a screw passing through the hole and slot to fasten the clip to the door. The gripping means for a container of cleaning material comprises a metal plate 23 mounted on the board 5 and having two stops 24, 25 constituting a fixed member, and a movable member 26 with a finger grip 30 guided in a slot 27 in the plate 23 and urged towards the stops by a spring 28, in a groove 27<SP>1</SP> in the board 5, so that containers of various sizes can be held firmly between the member 26 and the stops.
