Abstract

605,123. Arc-rupturing in switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 14, 1945, No. 33937. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1944. [Class 38 (v)] A box-like housing for the arc-chute of a circuitbreaker, such as that described in Specification 562,429, comprises insulating sheets 10 ... 14 joined at their edges by insulating members 19, Fig. 6, having recesses 22 formed between flanges 20 and a central part 21, into which recesses the sheets can be slid or sprung. The flanges 20 are preferably initially curved inwardly, and have tongues 24 engaging grooves 23 in the sheets for locking the whole in place. Alternatively, or additionally, the sheets may have holes 25 receiving depressions 26 preformed in the members 19. Partitions 15 separating the individual poles are located by grooves 27 in the sheets 10 ... 12 and fixed thereto by being slotted to engage slotted dowel pins 28 engaging holes in the sheets. The members are preferably formed of cellulose ester plastic material such as aceto-butyrate. The method of assembling the box is described. Specifications 541,612 and 605,124 also are referred to.
