Abstract

604,777. Fluid-actuated valves. BROWN & SONS (HUDDERSFIELD), Ltd., D., and TUPLIN, W. A. Nov. 15, 1945, No. 30579. [Class 135] A device for maintaining a specified relation between two fluid-pressure systems comprises a diaphragm b, to one side of which the first fluid pressure is applied through an inlet a, the opposite side of the diaphragm carrying a valve plate c which can close on to seats d, e, f to which the second fluid pressure is applied, and the number of which in use at any one time can be varied; and when the second fluid pressure applied to the valve plate exceeds that applied to the diaphragm by the first fluid pressure, the valve plate will move away from the seats and open the second system to atmosphere. As shown, the second fluid pressure is applied through a throttle h to concentric chambers constituting the seats d, e, f, and various combinations of areas to which the second fluid pressure is applied can be obtained by manipulation of control cocks d<SP>1</SP>, el, f<SP>1</SP>. A spring, weight, &c. load can be applied to either side of the diaphragm, and this load can be varied in accordance with the seats in use by means of cams, cranks, &c. carried by the spindles of the control cocks.
