Abstract

739,863. Gate valves. AINSWORTH & SONS (PROPRIETARY), W. Ltd. March 30, 1954 [April 28, 1953], No. 9258/54. Class 135. In a valve comprising a valve gate 4 formed by telescopic cylindrical parts 8, 9 having seating rings 14 engageable with annular seats 6 mounted in the valve body 1, excessive pressure on the upstream side of the gate when closed is relieved by a non- return valve 15 controlling a port 11 through the gate part 8. The valve 15 is loaded by a spring 20 which also urges the parts 8, 9 against the plate 6. In a system wherein a common pressure fluid generator, e.g. a steam boiler, supplies several units, a valve according to the invention is fitted in the supply line to each unit, so that on all the gates being closed any over-pressure in the system is distributed equally between all the units.
