Abstract

604,574. Making tubes. PICKEN, E. M. Nov. 28, 1945, No. 32072. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Angular bending; welding. - A longitudinally butt-welded tube is made by passing a strip through rolls 21, 22 to slightly curve the strip to stiffen it for feeding through a preheating furnace 17. Rolls 23, 24, 25, 26 then form the strip into an open-seamed tube. It then passes through a furnace 36 where it is raised to welding temperature, Rolls 27 apply pressure tc weld the joint and rolls 28 regularise the tube section A flying saw 43 cuts the tube into lengths.
