Abstract

766,220. Glass tubing. ZEISS-STIFTUNG, C., [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN.]. March 3. 1955 [March 6, 1954], No. 6333/55. Class 56. Glass tubing is formed by continuously delivering molten metal from the furnace- 1 into a centrifrugal drum 3, the annulus. of glass formed by the centrifugal action being passed through a shaping nozzle 4 which is rotated synchronously with the drum 3. The tubing is continuously drawn from the nozzle 4 by rollers 11. The rollers are driven in the forward direction, re. main stationary, or are driven in the reverse direction (which is necessary when a starting tube has to be inserted at the start of the operations) according to whether a sleeve 7 rotates faster 'than, or the same rate as, or slower than a drum 6 which rotates synchronously with the nozzle 4 and drum 3.
