Abstract

633,606. Drawing. HUBBARD, N. F. S., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 22, 1948, No. 1985. [Class 83 (iv)] A tube gripping means for use in the manufacture of cold drawn tubing comprises a draw-bar 7 with a flared end 8 having a plurality of segments 9 slidably mounted thereon so that the assembly may be freely inserted within the leading end of the tube 4 and the segments then moved axially along the portion 8 by means of a lever 14 so that they are brought into gripping contact with the inside of the tube. The segments are splined on the portion 8 and have teeth adapted to bite into the tube. After the completion of the drawing, the teeth are released by moving the carriage 6 backwards so that the tube is suddenly stopped by a knock-out plate 20 which has meanwhile been lowered into position behind the tube.
