Abstract
604,398. Composite building units. JENNINGS, H. W. K. (Kraus, C. W.). Nov. 15, 1945, No. 30635. [Class 87(i)] A composite building unit comprises overlapping rows of tapered shingles which are fastened together and to the facing sheet of a plaster board by staples, projecting into the body of the board which is cast thereon. In one'form, Fig. 1, a row of shingles 10 is overlapped by shingle butt ends 11 and backed by tar paper 12 and shingle tip ends 13, being secured together and to the plaster board facing sheet 38 by rows of staples 40, 41, 42. The sheet 38 covers the edges of the board which are tongued and grooved as at 17, 18. The lower edges of the shingles 10 extend below the shingle tips 13 and the plaster board 15. In another form, Fig. 16, two overlapping rows of complete shingles 75, 76 each backed with tar paper 77, 78 are provided. The tips of the upper row 75 extend beyond the plaster board 79 and a corresponding groove 80 is formed in the lower edge of the unit. In a continuous process for the manufacture of the units, one or two parallel conveyers receive in succession the rows of shingles, paper and plaster, and gauge and other members are provided to position and otherwise operate on the unit.
