Roofing tiles.-In Roman or Italian roof tiling, the narrow end of each upper tile b, Fig. 2, and the lower corners of the upturned flanges c of the bottom tiles a are cut off or bevelled to abut together so that the horizontal joints have only three thicknesses of tiles at the battens, as shown in Fig. 4. If the roof boarding k be omitted, the lower tiles a are hung on the battens by means of flanges l, Fig. 13.
