Abstract

604,174. Heat-exchangers. AUSTIN, G. F., and WOOD, D. G. Dec. 4, 1945, Nos. 32724/45 and 5244/46. Addition to 573,998. [Class 64(iii)] In heat exchange apparatus of the kinc described in the parent Specificatior flow communicatior between chambers is effected by means o an annulus 3 pressec from the plate and fitted to the adjacent plate which is perforated to admit the upper end 4 of the annulus, and the joint is sealed by welding, brazing or soldering. The annulus may be bevelled to accommodate the welding metal and a shoulder 5 may be formed therein to provide a positive location for the annulus in the adjacent plate. Alternatively a ring of metal 9 is inserted between two aligned holes in the plates, the ring being made of thicker sheet metal than the walls of the chamber, and the holes being of a size such that the thickness of the ring at its ends is reduced by half.
