Abstract

603,510. Linear-dimension gauges. WILKINSON, E. Oct. 22, 1945, No. 27782. [Class 106 (ii)] A ring or plug gauge comprises a ring which is slotted substantially radially from its inner to its outer periphery and is reduced in crosssection at a single opposite point to the slot so as to be more flexible at this zone than elsewhere and adjustment means adapted to flex the said ring by contraction in the case of a ring gauge or by expansion in the case of a plug gauge, to take up wear or for adjustment. A ring gauge for screw threads, Fig. 1, includes an internally threaded ring 5, broken by a radial slot 6 and having an opposite slot 7 of keyhole form. The ring may be contracted by two grub screws 8 in a circular housing 9 having an internal flange 12 to receive a shoulder formed on the ring 5 which is held in the housing by means of a clamping plate 13 engaging a shoulder on the opposite side of the ring 5. A third screw 10 engages the slot 6. A screw-thread plug gauge, Fig. 3, includes a similar gauge ring 5 which is threaded externally and mounted on a holder 19, a locating pin 22 entering the slot 6 of the ring. A cone 17 engages a conical bore in the ring 5 and has a shank 18 provided with adjusting and locking nuts 20, 21 by means of which the cone may be drawn inwardly to expand the ring 5. Rotation of the shank 18 is prevented by means of a screw or key secured to the holder which projects into a slot in the shank. The housing 9 or holder 19 may be used with different gauge rings 5, which, when threaded, may have the central part of the thread undercut. The temper of the gauging rings 5 is preferably drawn slightly adjacent to the slot 7.
