Abstract

603,421. Turning. ALEXANDER, G. H., and WRIGHT, F. Oct. 22, 1945, No. 27693. [Class 83 (iii)] A lathe turret having spring-loaded frictional means for clamping the turret to its slide is provided with means for releasing the turret arranged to co-operate with a ramp so that withdrawal of the slide from its working position effects the release of the clamping means. The turret a is carried by a rotatable hollow post c on a slide b. An annular portion d on the underface of the turret bears on to a flat face of the slide and the post carries an abutment ring g between which and the lower face of a cap h a spring or springs i are arranged. The springs press the cap on to the top of the turret and the latter on to the slide to clamp the turret against rotation. A rod o extends within the hollow post and bears at its upper end against a stop on the cap, while the lower end is adapted to engage a ramp p when the turret is retracted for an indexing movement. The rod is thus forced upwardly against the spring pressure to free the turret for rotation.
