Abstract

602,203. Crankshafts. AJAX IRON WORKS. Dec. 1, 1943, No. 28239/45. Convention date, June 8. Divided out of 602,165. [Class 80 (ii)] A crank-shaft assembly, particularly for use with the valve gear of steam engines as described in Specification 602,165, comprises a pair of axially aligned shaft members 42, 42a and an offset portion 63, the axis of which is inclined to the axis of the aligned shaft members and included in a plane parallel to but spaced therefrom. As shown, the offset portion 63 is integral with a hanger arm 74 on the shaft member 42a, but connected by dowels 77 to the other shaft member 42. In a modification, the offset portion is provided with heads at both of its ends which engage in sockets provided in flanges on both of the aligned shaft members. Two or more such crank-shaft units may be connected together in any desired angular relation by means of coupling rings 109, Figs. 5 and 6, with internal teeth engaging with gears 102, 103 on the ends of the shaft members 42.
