602,074. Slicing-machines. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (Maatschappij van Berkel's Patent N.V.). Nov. 27, 1945, No. 32063. [Class 28(ii)] In a bread slicer in which the knife 5 has a combined revolving and bodily motion, the loading tray 8 is movable laterally from slicing position into a safe loading position. The slice receiving tray 9 is likewise movable into safe receiving position. Both trays are protected by sheet metal &c. guards 14 and 15 which prevent access to the bread during cutting. The bread is pushed forward step by step by a feed screw 13 and a nut 32 on the loaf holder. To insert a loaf the loading tray 8, supported by arms 21 on a shaft 16 is swung outward through the open side 26 of its guard 14 to dotted line position Fig. 2 where a loaf is inserted on its holder 28 and gripped by prongs 29. The feed nut 32 is thus disconnected from its feed screw 13. A torsion spring 23 helps to restore the tray to working position against stop pins 36. The loaf holder moves along a guide rod 30 during feeding. The receiving tray 9 may be similarly swung out to safety position to remove the cut slices by hand.
