Abstract
602,026. Electrodeposition of indium. VANDERVELL PRODUCTS, Ltd., GREEN, D. F., and SALMON, J. E. Jan. 2, 1945, No. 148. [Class 41] An electrolytic bath for use in indium plating comprises a soluble indium salt, an alkali metal cyanide, sorbitol and sufficient alkali metal hydroxide to render the bath stable. To produce a typical bath. indium is first dissolved in an excess of hydrochloric acid and the sulution evaporated until crystallization of indium chloride occurs. The crystalline indium chloride is then dissolved in water and the solution added drop-by-drop accompanied by agitation to a second solution of potassium cyanide and sorbitol in Water and a third solution of potassium hydroxide in water is then added. Sodium salts may replace the potassium salts. The final solution obtained may be evaporated to dryness to produce a soluble dry product which may be dissolved in water to produce an indium plating bath.
