Abstract
601,808. Electromagnetic switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CALDWELL, J. T. Dec. 12, 1945, No. 33648. [Class 38 (v)] 'Contactors or other switches wherein the contacts tend to " bounce " owing to the high speed of closure, are provided with a second pair of contacts 24, 36 in parallel with the main pair 23, 25 and arranged to be closed by the movement of the contact 23 after it has been engaged by the contact 25. The contact 25 is carried by an arm 26 fixed to an armature 29 adapted to be attracted by a core 30 and engages the contact 23 before the armature stroke is complete, rocking the lever 16 carrying the contact 24. At the end of the armature stroke both pairs of contacts are in engagement and continuity of circuit is maintained by the pair 24, 36 even if " bounce '' causes the other pair to open. The contacts are made of an alloy of tungsten nickel and copper and the contact 36 is mounted on a phosphor bronze spring 37 reinforced by a steel spring 38. The contactor is specially applicable for controlling the electric supply to X-ray apparatus in mass radiography. Specification 601,811, [Group XXXV], is referred to.
