Abstract
568,984. Electromagnetic switches ; contacts. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). Dec. 3, 1943, No. 20234. [Class 38 (v)] A shock-proof overload circuit breaker or other switch has a moving contact 41 mounted on the centre of a cantilever spring 31 and pressed firmly into engagement with the fixed contact 40 by the camming action of pins 45, 46 arranged on opposite sides of the contact 41 and carried by an operating member 44. In the form shown, the member 44 is carried by an armature 12 pivoted at its R.H. end and biassed by a spring 15 into the position shown. Upon overload in a bus-bar 11 the armature 12 is attracted downwards and a third pin 47 on the member 44 moving downwards in a slantwise direction forces the spring 31 to the left, a projection 48 on its upper end being simultaneously freed from the pin 45. The arrangement is such that the contacts open after the armature has completed about half its stroke.
