Abstract

This device for limiting current strength comprises an inertia block (48) bound, with clearance, to a moving contact (32) of a switch cooperating with fixed contacts (34, 36) so as to be struck by this moving contact after an opening idle travel of the moving contact. The inertia block which is held away from the moving contact by a spring (56) performs an oscillating motion whose duration is independent of the striking force and prevents reclosure of the contact throughout the duration of oscillation. This duration is chosen long enough to be compatible with the time of operation of the fault elimination circuit breakers, but short enough to avoid the dropping out of electromagnetic relays mounted in the circuit monitored by the device. <IMAGE>
